After the success of the last edition, which assembled more than 85,000 people in a pioneer event, Festival Pura Vida celebrates its fourth edition next Saturday, September 20; when Fuencarral Street and surrounding area will be closed to traffic.
This is the only urban festival held in down-town Madrid, completely free and with a first-class line up, including both national and international artists.

The Disciplines: una cuchillada inteligente y una máquina eficiente a todo tren. Una ráfaga de rock respetable a lo AC/DC con melodías anatémicas, dulces y suaves como ABBA.
Un lugar donde la humildad del indie y el hechizo se encuentran musicalmente.
La banda está formada por el icono indie americano Ken Stringfellow (The Posies, R.E.M, Big Star, Lagwagon, etc.) y los tres miembros instrumentistas del éxito noruego Briskeby.
The Disciplines acaban de sacar su primer album, SMOKING KILLS (Voices Music & Ent., Norway/Denmark). El album ya salió a la luz en los medios noruegos y escandinavos, donde los singles “Best Mistake” y “Oslo” se han instalado en los charts como hits.
La banda ha sido objeto de su propio especial de TV y se ha presentado en los mayores festivales noruegos de este verano con un éxito infernal.
The Disciplines han sido invitados por Snow Patrol para hacer de soporte en sus shows de Londres este año, R.E.M ha incluido el track “Yours for the Taking” en su cd mix para la revista Q y los han convocado para que sean su banda soporte en los conciertos que darán en los estadios escandinavos en Septiembre.
Próximamente tienen prevista una gira por Holanda, Francia, Helsinki y Berlín, y estarán presentándose el año próximo en Norte y Sud América.

The Disciplines–a razor sharp, fuel efficient jet machine blending a full-on, rock blast worthy of AC/DC with anthemic melodies as sweet and singable as ABBA; a place where indie-level humility and charm meets a stadium-sized musical reach. Formed by American indie icon Ken Stringfellow (the Posies, R.E.M., Big Star, Lagwagon etc.) and the three instrument-wielding members of Norwegian chart successes Briskeby, the Disciplines have just released their first album, SMOKiNG KiLLS (Voices Music & Ent., Norway/Denmark). The album has already drawn rave reviews in the Norwegian national media; the singles “Best Mistake” and “Oslo” are bona fide chart hits; the band has been the subject of its own TV special and is on most of the major festivals in Norway this summer. The band was asked by Snow Patrol to support their London show last year; R.E.M. included the track “Yours for the Taking” on their Q magazine mix CD and has tagged the band to support their Scandinavian stadium shows in September. Coming up: a feature on Ken in Elle Scandinavia; festival and club dates in Netherlands, Spain and France.

Los cuatro de Zarautz ya nos han demostrado a lo largo de sus discos cuales son sus recursos (una batería como si fuera una caja de ritmos, un bajo subterráneo, un par o tres sintetizadores analógicos, una guitarra con delay y una voz lejana y desganada), qué raíces tiene su discurso (la música dance de los ´80, la oscuridad de The Cure y la modernidad de !!! o Radio 4) y cual ha sido su campo de prácticas (el underground indie curiosamente, por antecedentes y actitud, ligada a la escena punk-hardcore).
Pero nunca hasta ahora habían sonado tan sobrios, tan centrados, tan elegantes y profundos.
Después de su debut “Silhouettes” ( Underhill, 02), donde hicieron su primer paso a la electrónica desde el indie pop, de “ Delorean” (Bcore, 05), en que sorprendieron a más de uno con su capacidad de hacer bailar al son de sus texturas casi siniestras, y de “Metropolitan Death” (Bcore,05), mini album concebido íntegramente como material de pista de baile, con sus remixes incluidos, “Into the Plateau”, su trabajo más maduro, les confirma como uno de los grupos más relevantes de la electrónica indie estatal, y su background punk es, probablemente, el que hace que lleguen a tocar unas fibras donde no toda la música de baile consigue llegar.
JOHN TAYLOR (Punx Soundcheck/UK)…
John Taylor es uno de los embajadores más respetados e influyentes de la escena electro londinense. En los últimos años ha estado a la vanguardia impulsando nuevos sonidos y como la mitad de Punx Soundcheck sus producciones y trabajos han sido consecuentemente los más vanguardistas. No nos sorprende que su habilidad como dj esté acrecentando la demanda de sus sets también en el circuito internacional.
La lista de créditos de John Taylor nos demuestra el quién es quién de la escena londinense con sus apariciones habituales en las noches de los clubes como Drama, Electrogogo, The Cock, Nag Nag Nag, Trailer Trash, Computer Blue y Nuke Them All!. Viajes a España, Italia, Rusia, Israel, Japón, Brasil y Nueva York continuados con sus constantes visitas a Berlín. Al lado de sus habilidades como Dj, John es un músico consumado que ha tocado en directo como parte de The Droyds y acompañando a Siobhan Fahey.
John Taylor continua machacándolo todo allá donde pincha, recientemente ha adoptado el sonido y el trazo sucio del Techno y la New Rave a partes iguales.
John Taylor is one of the most respected and influential ambassadors on the London electro scene. Over the last few years he has been at the forefront of pushing new music forward and as one half of Punx Soundcheck his productions have consistently been at the cutting edge. Not surprisingly his DJ skills are increasingly in demand on the international circuit too.
John’s list of credits reads like a who’s who of the London scene with regular appearances at nights like Drama, Electrogogo, The Cock, Nag Nag Nag, Trailer Trash, Computer Blue and Nuke Them All! .
Trips to Spain, Italy, Russia, Israel, Japan, Brazil and New York soon followed as well as regular visits to Berlin.
Alongside his superb DJ skills, John is also an accomplished musician and has played live as part of The Droyds and with Siobhan Fahey.
John continues to smash it up wherever he plays and has recently taken his sound tougher and dirtier drawing inspiration from techno and the new rave scene in equal measure.
MIGUEL MENDOZA (Coppelia 101 / MSX/ Armut24/Stardust|MAD)…
Miguel Mendoza empezó a dedicarse profesionalmente a la música en 1987, influido por el rock, el pop y el techno más underground de la época (Kraftwerk, Bauhaus, Depeche Mode, The Neon Judgement.
Sus sesiones son una equilibrada combinación de techno y electro en su versión más oscura e hipnótica, en las que la conexión con la pista está garantizada y es ya su mayor seña de identidad.
Además de su trabajo como dj, Miguel fundó las distribuidoras Intergroove Spain y Yoo Music, y, ha recorrido el territorio nacional por las salas más conocidas, así como en Europa y Sudamérica.
Es a día de hoy promotor de Coppelia 101, referencia de la escena underground española.
En el año 2005 fue premiado por la revista Dj1 como mejor dj de música electrónica.
Mendoza es sin lugar a dudas uno de los nombres imprescindibles de la escena electrónica de los últimos 15 años… y de los que vengan.
Miguel Mendoza started dj for a living in 1987, the most underground side of pop, rock and techno being his main interests and influences (Kraftwerk, Bauhaus, Depeche Mode, The Neon Judgement…). All this different influences, his later experience as a dj and promoter of some of Madrid’s best clubs and his presence all over the world have set up Miguel’s artistic personality. His sets are therefore a balanced combination of techno and electro on their darkest and hypnotic shades, in which communion with the crowd is guaranteed and it is his main feature.
In this last club the idea of Coppelia 101 will born, which under Miguel’s management would become a reference for Madrid’s underground club scene.
In 2005 Miguel was awarded with the Dj1 magazine award as best dj of the year.
Besides his work as a dj, Miguel founded and managed the record distributors Intergroove Spain and Yoo Music, and his interest in becoming a music maker would take him to release plenty of records until today.
Miguel Mendoza is therefore one of those names that has become essential to the last 15 years of electronic music, … and so on.
AXEL KRYGIER (HiTop Records, Argentina)
En su solo set, Axel toca e improvisa con samplers, teclados y vientos sobre pistas de sus temas remezclados en clave de cumbia, dancehall o hip hop, a lo que suma un juego vocal con y manipulación de efectos, generando versiones únicas de sus propias composiciones. Ha realizado presentaciones en lugares como el South by Southwest (Austin, USA),) Sonotheque (Chicago, USA) S.O.B.’s (New York), Mezzanine (San Francisco), Echo Plex (Los Angeles) Creamfields, (Buenos Aires) Feria musical Brasil (Recife), Sala Juglar (Madrid), Sala Apolo (Barcelona), entre otros. Además ha sacado dos discos de estilos refrescantes por estas tierras, “Echale Semilla!” y “Zorzal.” No pierdas este auténtico espectáculo de este increíble showman.

RUBEN MONTESCO (Lasegun/Helvet Underground/Stardust|MAD)
Ya a principios de los 90, se podía palpar cuáles eran sus influencias más marcadas en sus primeras sesiones al sur de la capital: industrial, ebm, electro-techno, minimal, o acid-house entre otras. Ahora el manejo de samplers, sintes y secuenciadores eran sus nuevos instrumentos, comenzando así su faceta como productor sin apenas darse cuenta.
Sus sesiones empiezan a oírse junto a los precursores de estos sonidos, HD Substance, Jesús González o Miguel Mendoza.
Es en este momento cuando empiezan a ver la luz sus nuevas producciones, con su característico sonido DARK. Pasan desapercibidas para la mayoría de sellos nacionales, pero no fuera de nuestras fronteras, siendo finalmente Savas Pascalidis, quien le recluta a principios de 2004 para su sello LASER GUN RECORDS y edita más tarde “Slave Of The Darkness ep”, disco que tuvo una acogida y críticas magníficas.
Mas tarde HELVET UNDERGROUND edita sus “Kiss Your Boots ep” y “Kontakt ep” y DEVILOCK, “Animatronik ep”. Tambien remezclara entre otros a LETHARGY “Insomniac..s Red Room”, EQUITANT “Elements” o ADRIANO CANCIAN “Turkish Testosterone”.
Sin duda podemos decir de Rubén Montesco que se ha convertido en uno de los nombres propios de la capital y fiel representante del sonido ebm y electro-tecno de nuestro país.

In the early 1990..s Ruben’s first influences were developed in clubs around the south of Madrid and included: electro, industrial, ebm, techno, Detroit-Chicago, minimal-techno and acid house… among others.
From then on samplers, synthesizers and sequencers were his new tools and he began producing without even realizing it. His unique sets start to be heard again with the precursors of this modern sound in Madrid HD Substance, Jesús González, Miguel Mendoza.
At the beginning of 2005, LASERGUN RECORDS released his “Slave Of The Darkness ep” and this led to recognition an international level. Later HELVET UNDERGROUND released “Kiss Your Boots ep” and “Kontakt ep” and DEVILOCK, “Animatronik ep”. In addition, he remixed for artist such as LETHARGY “Insomniac..s Red Room”, EQUITANT “Elements” or ADRIANO CANCIAN “Turkish Testosterone”.
Rubén Montesco has always pursued his own personal style, now well known thanks to the great representation of ebm and electro-techno sound in Spain.
Currently, he is resident dj at Stardust in Madrid.
